Repair Ferrule vs Weld-on fitting

I’m replacing the hoses on my ac system and have cut off the old ferrules from the beadlock fittings on a couple sections of hard tubing (steel) that I need to reuse. Has anybody had experience with the repair ferrules that have the oblong hole, versus welding on a new fitting. I have a MIG welder, but want to know if the repair ferrules are just as good?
