A6 Replacement

good morning all, i need to replace the harrison A6 compressor in a '67 chevy
and i'm considering two aftermarket units that are represented as being drop in,
the Pro6ten and the S6. i spoke with a tech at Oldair in Tx and they say that they
have pro6ten made for them and that the body is by Nipon denso and the mounting
plate and clutch are added to make it a direct replacement for the A6. they didn't
say who made it. maybe it's these folks, they have a pic on their website that looks
just like it:http://www.sunairusa.com/products.html
then i spoke with a tech at original/classic air in tampa about the S6 but that just confused
things. he said that the pro6ten and the a6 were the same compressor and that they were
copies of the a6, just built with closer tolerances.
i'm hoping someone here with direct experience with these two compressors can explain
the differences if any.
thanks.

The aluminum body A6's (S6) pretty much is a Sunair imported item. Main issues in version 1 were clutch failures.

For $30.00 more than the S6 we offer. We http://www.ackits.com a new Alma compressor Alma is the mfg of A6's.

Would need a little more information to be sure on the model A6. Dual groove ply or single. Heat switch or not.

The biggest difference is you are giving up displacement when you go to the S6.

The A6 is 12.6 CID or 207 cc's while the Sanden is 155 cc's (9.5 CID)

So you give up 30% of your refrigerant mass flow at idle. Or you need to spin it 30% faster.

Buy a new Alma A6 from Tim & do it right.

I did not know they were smaller. Kinda stay away from them for the most part.

How did the site load for you?

The only Asian unit I know of that is as big as an A6 is a Seltec TM-21HX

Site loads just fine.

hi tim, the car is a '67 corvette with factory air. the compressor was replace by
the PO not long ago and was already leaking through the front seal when i bought it.
i like the alma compressor and it gets good reviews with the corvette crowd especially
because it looks the most like the oem unit. but i've put the car on a weight loss
program so i'm considering the aluminum bodied units. the pro6ten also gets good
reviews but i haven't heard much about the S6 units. just to be sure we're on the same
page is this what we're calling an S6? https://www.originalair.com/s6-compressor-new
and if the pro6ten has a denso body, who makes the S6?
then there's this unit:
https://www.amazon.com/Four-Seasons-580 ... -1-catcorr
bohica, i've noticed that the pulleys on most of these are smaller diameter than the
A6. not sure if over driving them that little bit makes up for the smaller
displacement.
thanks guys, any and all input is much appreciated.
frank
ps, i had trouble with site yesterday but today has been fine.

Pretty pricey from original air. Matter of fact I could most likely beat both unless Amazon has free freight. But no support from Amazon either.

Your S6 link shows a 5" pulley, same size as the OEM. Nobody ever mentions a belt length change either.

Weight loss on an A/C car? Even an L71 car weighed less than 3700 lbs. Are you racing the car?
