A/C stops blowing at stop lights

Post by Pete3323 »

Just got back from a road trip in my 1988 Ford Bronco 2. Worked fine on way to destination., about 3 hours away mostly freeway. A couple days in I started hearing a loud noise/vibration with a loss of A/C. On the way home it worked fine (no noises) on the freeway but once I got off and in street traffic I would lose the a/c when stopped. When it works it blows cold so I don’t think it lost refrigerant. Any ideas? Thx…

Either you have lost the radiator fan or the condenser fan that pulls heat out of the condenser or the compressor / compressor clutch is failing.

My two cent guess.

88 Bronco II will have a fan blade & fan clutch unless modified.

I'd be thinking about too large an air gap and possible bad clutch bearing

Both topics are covered well here, I would do a search
