HARBOR FREIGHT 134a $ 12.99 will be 25.00 by June,

Post by bmills2@twc.com »

134A Price going on up from 12.99 will be 25.00 by June, EPA government made factory cut production by 10% this year, next year will cut another 30% next year total cut 40% what do you think price will be next year? better stock up now price will never be coming back down this is worse than the r-12 because you could retrofit to 134a.there is no replacement to use for 134a, If you won't A/C will have to pay the higher price
Stock up now before they put limits on how much you can buy .some has set limits now

You got all that right!
Typical government interference. And there is no replacement! Millions of cars out there with 134

I was at Home Depot yesterday, saw - didn't buy - pure R134a 12-oz. cans at $11.47. Interestingly, the cans were not the newer/less-liked "resealable" cans.

Cusser, what I recently heard from MACS is that there is still a rather large inventory of the older, non-self-sealing, 12-ounce cans of R-134a out there that aren't illegal to sell (according to the EPA). So we'll continue seeing them being offered in auto parts stores, home centers, discounters, and so on, until the old stock is fully depleted.

No different than the 20 Year stockpile of R12 they had after it was banned.

I still have one vehicle that uses R-12 (thanks to Tim finding me a brand-new compressor for it back in 2014) and have approximately 14 cans of R-12 left. The local ASE shop I use in Phoenix also still does R-12 vehicles. So I figure that for my one truck that I have enough R-12 to cover me; in early 2020 I had an R-12 leak through its high side schraeder and a bad cap, installed a better cap but was stooopid and didn't replace that schraeder there. Oh well, but apparently leak-free since then....

I have maybe 8 cans of R134a for our 3 vehicles that use that, not purchasing more.

I bought six cans here locally (northwest Louisiana) about ten days ago. Three cans at about $8.50 and another three at about $9.50.

Rick, at those prices, maybe you should buy more. In my area, the small cans from Chemours are priced at around $20--that's for pure USA-made refrigerant without any sealers or other additives.

Hello John,

Yes, I was surprised that it was still that low of a price but its roughly a 100 percent increase in price than one year ago at Walmart - $4.88. Still, I had two cans before buying these and it would be irresponsible to blow through this many cans without trying to find and repair the leak.
