Honda Odyssey can't achieve pressure

Post by Elisa7joy »

Ok. Let me first throw this out.... I am a middle aged woman who lives in her minivan, I have an extremely limited income. However, I've been able to learn a large number of automotive repairs simply from studying online and asking a TON of questions. I find often AC questions go unanswered on other forums so 🤞🤞🤞 I can get some good feedback here.

Telling me things like, I don't have any business attempting these repairs is not helpful, please be kind.

Honda Odyssey 2007
Took it in for a look over at my mechanic, they said the AC compressor wasn't engaging even when getting power directly.

I had the system evacuated by a mechanic.

I replaced, the compressor, the front and rear expansion valves, the dryer/dessiccant bag, and all related o rings.

I attempted to pull a vacuum wth the vacuum pump and I never was able to get lower than - 20 on the low side.

I rented the equipment, so I thought maybe it was faulty. Checked by hooking the manifold to the vacuum, - 29 almost instantly.

The system is empty. I need to check to find the leak that I assume exists given my inability to get the low pressure down to - 29 and the inability to hold at even - 20.

I obviously do not have nitrogen, and I have no access to "shop air" or an air condenser.

Thinking.... if I could get the system at least filled enough to bypass the low pressure switch..... I could then run it very briefly..... Then.... I would be able to find the leaks from the UV dye present in the pag oil I added into the new compressor when I swapped it out.

However when I attatched a can to the yellow hose and went thru the process of purging then opening the low pressure side, I was never able to get above 10psi.

I went thru the entire 12oz can. I NEVER turned on the engine or the AC

This seems to me it would indicate a VERY large leak, and something I would likely be aware of... Like a hole in the condenser or an open connection.

OR that the refrigerant isn't even entering the system at all.

I am at a loss for how to continue to trouble shoot this issue!!

The system is empty, and I have NOT run it at all since swapping out parts...

Any advice on how to continue to diagnose this issue would be appreciated, and again PLEASE be kind.
I'm trying my very best to learn what's needed to do the work and live within my means. I feel like that should be respected. Thanks ☺️
